In each biography, straightforward text gives an overview of the artist's life, including his or her time period, major influences, evolution as an artist, and impact on the art world. The Met Hokusai describes the Japanese artist's long career in print making and painting that experimented with nature, landscapes, perspective, and European techniques. Young manga fans will also appreciate depictions of the artist's first manga creations.
