This work broadens our perception of time by looking at it through natural cycles. The book is divided into six sections that are bound by their singular focus on the perception of time. Part one focuses on evolutionary time, such as time between mass extinctions and rates of evolution. Part two explores how organism activity, such as activities of whales and beavers, impacts the environment. Part three surveys life spans, including hibernation and dormancy. Part four discusses growth phases such as pregnancy and maturation. Part five reviews behavioral spans such as reaction times and sleeping habits. Part six examines biological spans such as food-transit times, respiratory cycles, and migration patterns. Each section strives to show the different timescales among species, and each ends with a special-focus section. Each chapter is one or two spreads, which makes for easy reading. In addition, the visuals (both prominent and background) seamlessly enhance the text, making for an impactful learning experience. The book is best read as a spread to get the full impact of the visuals. While it will be appreciated by most readers, middle-school and high-school students may find it especially enjoyable.
