Hannon (Hope Harbor) gets her Code of Honor romantic suspense series off to a strong start. After Trish Bailey’s husband and father die in a car crash, her only surviving family member is her mother. Lately, Trish has been having memory lapses, and when her mother dies suddenly from overdosing on medication, Trish becomes a suspect. Could she have miscounted her mother’s medication during one of her memory gaps? Her late mother’s accountant, Matt Parker, almost immediately attempts to woo her under the pretense of comforting her and also pushes to become more involved in managing Trish’s wealthy family’s philanthropic foundation. Meanwhile, the detective investigating the death of her mother, Colin Flynn, is a much more appealing romantic alternative; he has a genuine interest in finding out what happened and doesn’t believe Trish was involved. When the reason for Trish’s memory lapses comes to light and she becomes the victim of an attack, Colin’s desire to protect Trish deepens, as do his feelings for her. Outside of Trish’s outward commitment to God, faith elements are light. The suspenseful conclusion and believable romantic element will leave readers eager for the next installment. Agent: Chip MacGregor, MacGregor Literary.

Only by the strength of her Christian faith has Trish Bailey been able to get through losing her husband, then her father, and caring for her invalid mother, all while holding down a full-time teaching job. Showing a marked, if one-sided, interest in Trish is Matt Parker, the accountant for her family's philanthropic foundation. When her mother dies after being given the wrong medication, Det. Colin Flynn is called in, and Trish becomes the primary suspect. In the wake of her loss, Matt begins to push Trish to give him more control over the foundation and its finances. VERDICT Three-time RITA Award winner Hannon (Tangled Webs) delivers a new romantic suspense series that starts off slowly but then races full speed ahead, spinning out a twisty plot. The author's many fans will devour this work, which explores good vs. evil against the backdrop of an engrossing mystery.
